The FACE of St. Lucia Tourism was created by The Visitor Channel to highlight the importance of the industry to all St. Lucians and to demonstrate how the benefits are multiplied into the fabric of the economy and how the effects are manifest in numerous occupations.
Andre Alexander, Visitor Channel Marketing Director, commented "We believe that fostering a genuine appreciation for the industry can only be achieved when St. Lucians understand what our brand means, and are allowed to take ownership and pride in the product, this program is designed to show that tourism is an inclusive business."
The FACE of St. Lucia Tourism program commenced broadcasting in December 2008. To date The Visitor Channel has interviewed over three hundred (300) industry workers. This highly successful program is aired on the Visitor Channel in excess of fifteen (15) times a day, making the participants household names. Additionally, the show has given an incredible boost to the AWARENESS of the importance of the tourism industry to all St. Lucians.
In 2009 the award was won by Ms. Terrell Edward, an Air Traffic Controller with the St. Lucia Air & Sea port Authority, with second and third prize going to Mr. John 'Junior' Mitchell and Mr. Valence 'Vision' James respectively, both tour guides.
In 2010 The FACE of St. Lucia Tourism program received the support of the St. Lucia Tourist Board, which has facilitated the evolution of the program to explore more of the opportunities available within the tourism industry. The project is focused on fulfilling its mandate to convert jobs into careers and exposing personalities who bring their sense of accomplishment and pride to each profession.
